Vidyanjali – A School Volunteer Programme
Involvement of Community and Private Sector in Primary Schools:
The Vidyajali programme was launched on 16th
June 2016 by then Central Human Resource Development Minister Smt. Smariti
Israni. The main objective of the programme was bring the people including
community and private sector organization together for volunteering their
services at elementary schools as mentors of the students.
Which Ministry comes for this initiative?
The MyGov in collaboration with Ministry of Human Resource
Development (HRD) started and launched a mobile app to convince people for volunteering
and connect with Government schools as mentors and guide the students. The Volunteer
Management Program enabled the volunteers to interact with the institutions for
contributing in the institution’s activity with their knowledge and skills.
Dashboard for Volunteers and Institutions:
The programme facilitated both the volunteers and
institutions with the help of a dashboard, an interactive mobile platform
facilitating communication. The prospective volunteers showed their interest in
the available volunteering opportunities with providing the locations where
they can serve the institutions. Similarly, the institutions were also able to
seek the details of the volunteers who can serve them in delivering better
educational services. Before providing the opportunities to the volunteer to
serve, the institutions requested them to provide the profile followed by a
meeting for further action.
Successful and innovative alternative:
The Vidyanjali initiative was successful as it brought an
innovative approach with seeking the support of the volunteers to come ahead
and contribute with their knowledge and skills for upgrading the students of
elementary schools. It bridge the gap of scarcity of talented human resources
for teahing the students of primary schools.
